The Mohihi-Waialae Trail is a 4 mile long (each way), out and back style hiking trail in the Waimea area of Kaua'i. The trailhead starts at the end of the 6 mile long Mohihi-Camp 10 Road. That means you'll either have a long hike to get to this hike or will need a 4x4 to drive along Mohihi-Camp 10 Road.

The trail crosses the Mohihi Stream so it's important to be aware of the possibility if a Flash Flood. While we're talking safety, be sure to read up on Hiking Safety & Essentials before heading out and never drink from fresh water streams without proper filtering due to the risk of Leptospirosis.

As you continue on, the trail follows the Kohua Ridge into the Alakai Wilderness Preserve area. Camping is available here but only at the Koaie Stream gauge and a permit is required. Overall elevation gains and a lack of trail maintenance make put this hike on the difficult level for most hikers.

Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leashes at all times and you must pick up after your animal. Be aware that hunters may be out, with their own hunting dogs, so always wear bright clothing and stay on the trail.
