The Moalepe Trail is a 2.5 mile (each way, around 5 miles round trip) out and back style hiking trail in the Kapaa on the east side of Kaua'i. The trail is often considered to be of easy difficulty with elevation gains around 650 feet overall.

The trail starts in the Wailua Homestead area at the end of the pavement on Olohena Road, see our map / directions page for GPS directions.

After about one mile in, the trail enters the Kealia Forest Reserve. At the end of the trail you can turn around and walk back or continue on to the Kuilau Trail.

This is a popular trail so chances are good you won't be alone here, at least on weekends and holidays. Although this is primarily a hiking trail, it's also popular with trail runners, horseback riders, and mountain bikers. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be kept on leashes as all times and you must pick up after them.

Note that the trail tends to get muddy during winter months. As with any trail, be sure to first read up on Hiking Safety & Essentials and apply sunscreen to Protect Yourself From Sunburn & Skin Cancer.
