The Wai Koa Loop Trail is a family friendly, 4.5 mile hiking trail located at Anaina Hou Community Park in the north shore town of Kilauea on Kaua'i. Because the trail is on private property you must first stop at Kauai Miniature Golf and Botanical Garden to sign a waiver.

Because this trail is mostly on flat land it's really more of a nature walk than a hardcore hike. That makes it a great family friendly trail but you'll still want to prepare for it. Apply plenty of sunscreen and don't forget to read Hiking Safety & Essentials before heading out.

Our map / directions page will take you right to the trailhead of the Wai Koa Loop Trail. As you take your walk through nature, you'll pass through the Kilauea Forest and the largest mahogany plantation in North America. The trail will then open to amazing views of the Namahana Mountains (which means "twin branches" in Hawaiian).

At the top of the loop is theStone Dam which was built in the 1880s to help bring water to the Kilauea Sugarcane Plantation, because back then Sugar in Hawaii wass a big deal.

Today it's a great place to enjoy a picnic and grab some photos. We do not recommend swimming here due to the risk of Leptospirosis.

Expect to spend around 2.5 to 4 hours enjoying this hike. Note that mountain bikes are no longer rented here but you can bring your own once you have signed their waiver.
