Kahakapao Loop Trail is a multi-use trail located in the Makawao Forest Reserve on the island of Maui. This loop trail offers paths for hikers as well as mountain bikers and horse riders. At certain points paths cross or are shared so it's important to be on the lookout for others on the trail. On that note, be sure to also read Hiking Safety & Essentials.

The Kahakapao Loop Trail starts out at around 2,800 feet in elevation and tops out at just over 3,700 feet so you'll be doing some uphill walking or biking to the tune of 900 feet in elevation gain. Expect around a 6 mile hike or bike ride overall.

If you're on a bicycle, the Boulder Gulch, Renegade, and Kahakapao Ravine trails provide excellent biking paths assuming the trail isn't muddy. The various trails here will provide different challenges for different abilities from beginner to advanced.

If it has rained recently or is about to rain, this isn't a good trail. If it's windy be careful and watch for fallen trees and branches on the trail. Since this hike takes place in the forest, you won't get any amazing views of Maui but plenty of the trail will be shady at least.
