The Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail is a 1.5 mile long (each way), out and back style hiking trail in the Honolulu area of O'ahu. With an overall 350 foot (roughly) elevation gain, this is generally considered an easy hike for most.

You'll find the trailhead location on our map / directions page and it will be right at the hiker / hunter check-in station which is right after the Board of Water Supply gate.

Shortly after the trail begins, around 0.1 miles in, the Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail will continue straight while a junction to the (longer and more difficult) Kuli'ou'ou Ridge Trail will be on your right.

Note that you may find hunters as well as mountain bikers on this trail so be cautious of that. Since hikers may be around, wear brightly colored clothes and stay on the trail at all times. On that note, be sure to read Hiking Safety & Essentials before heading out and bring some mosquito repellent on this one as well (read our Hawaii Mosquito Guide for more on that).

One you reach the end of the short trail, you'll head back the same way you came. The Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail was originally built in 1934 to provide access to the Kuli'ou'ou Forest Reserve for reforestation.
