Pohue Bay Beach is a very remote, secluded beach on the Big Island's southwest coast in the Ocean View region, just south of the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates and Hawaiian Ranchos. The views out here can be incredible with soft sand and amazing blue / turqoise waters.

If the ocean is calm the swimming and snorkeling here can be very good, but you're also a long way from help if things go bad on you. Even if you don't go in the water, there is always something magical about deserted beaches like this one. Of course, that doesn't mean you won't see anyone else here but chances are good it will be empty if you go.

On that note, getting here isn't easy. If you're driving in you'll need a 4x4. Otherwise, you have to hike in. Regardless, the issue is more about getting access to cross the land here from the owners as it is private property. Note that there are no facilities of any kind here so if you go bring plenty of water, etc.

At one point, this was supposed to be a mega-resort area but those plans never materialized. Give it enough time and it may very well turn into the next Waikoloa.
