The Pihea Trail, located in Kokee State Park on Kaua'i, is a 3.8 mile (one way), out and back style hiking trail. Most would would consider the difficult level of this hike to be somewhere in the moderate to difficult range.

There is an overall elevation gain of 284 feet but parts of the trail are often wet, slippery, and muddy.

The trail starts at the end of Highway 550, at the Puu O Kila Lookout and is a great place to see some incredible views as you hike. The Alakai Swamp Trail trail intersects this trail shortly before the 1.75 mile point.

At the end of the trail is the Pihea Overlook where you can enjoy some views but do not go beyond this point.

If you plan to do the full hike you will be walking around 7.6 miles total, so it's not for everyone.

As always, be sure to read up on Hiking Safety & Essentials before you head out. Camping is allowed but is by permit only. There is a fee for the permit and you are required to have your permit with you when camping.
