The Wailupe Loop Trail is a 5.5 mile long hiking trail in the 'Aina Haina area of Honolulu on the island of O'ahu. The trail is only lightly used, mostly because it's a difficult hike with elevation gains of around 2,500 feet.
Getting to the trailhead is easy, see our map / directions page for exact location.
Be sure to park in a legal area. Once on the trail, you'll need to start watching for trail markers which should be pink ribbons tied to trees or pink bottle caps nails to trees.
The trail ascends around 2,500 feet which make this a tough hike for some. This is generally not a family friendly hike to bring kids on.
Plenty of areas will be muddy and slippery as well as covered in tree roots so go slow and be careful. On that note of safety, don't forget to read Hiking Safety & Essentials before heading out.
Parts of the Wailupe Loop Trail will be through covered, forested areas while other parts will be along open ridges with spectacular views. You'll want to bring a camera on this one as the scenery here is absolutely amazing.
