The Coco Palms Resort is part of the new Unbound Collection by Hyatt.

The original Coco Palms hotel, of Elvis and Blue Hawaii fame, was destroyed by Hurricane Iniki on September 11, 1992. The hotel has basically sat here, in a completely destroyed condition, for the last couple of decades. Every time it seems like somebody will step in and get rid of it or rebuild it, it never actually happens.

Well, the good news is that work is finally being done as part of the new $135 million projected to redevelop the resort. The first step being the demolition of the old, destroyed hotel. Then, in January of 2017, work will begin on the replacement hotel which will keep the Coco Palms name but be run by Hyatt as part of their new Unbound Collection brand of hotels.

Expect the new hotel to offer 273 standard hotel rooms and 77 suites which will be about 50 less than the original hotel offered. There is no official opening date for the new Coco Palms resort, but it looks like it should open sometime in 2017 which seems pretty ambitious considering the January 2017 construction start date.

We'll continue to update this page as more information becomes available.

Coco Palms Resort was featured in many films such as Miss Sadie Thompson, Blue Hawaii, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
