Maipalaoa Beach Park is located on Oahu's west coast in the town of Waianae. It's a roadside beach that offers a grassy area, picnic tables, some shady areas, as well as bathrooms and showers.
Although there is a sandy beach here, most of the shoreline is reef which makes water entry difficult and thus not a great place to swim. There is a sandy shoreline just north of the parking lot that also happens to be well protected from the open ocean. The problem there is that it's where a storm water runoff channel dumps into the ocean.
Often the runoff channel is dry but best to check the water if you plan to splash around in there at all and make sure everything looks clean and clear and avoid any murky water. Just to the north of this beach is the much better Ma'ili Beach Park if you're looking to get wet.
