Hawaii Geek Meet is a free, Oahu based event that takes place annually. It's put on by local geeks Ryan Ozawa and Burt Lum and they really do put on a great event. The event, as the name suggests, is essentially a gathering of geeks. So basically anyone that's into technology, games, comics, toys, sci-fi movies, and whatever else floats your geeky boat.
I attended the 2015 event which was held on Sunday July 12, 2015 at Kapiolani Park. There were tons of people that showed up. Some setup booths to displays their warez while others setup games and a Lego table for the kids. On that note, this is a family friendly event and if you have kids you really should stop by and check it out. They'll enjoy the games like life sized Connect Four and Jenga, the Lego table, the paper airplane contest, or just seeing the cosplay in action.
Not sure what cosplay is? It's geeky fans who take their craft very seriously and dress up in costumes of their favorite characters from video games, comic, movies, etc. Some of the outfits are incredibly detailed and interesting to see. If you know all about cosplay you can rest assured that this level of it is family friendly.
