Makiki Bake Shop offers a variety of bakery items such as butter mochi, rum dipped / double baked biscuits, apple cinnamon monkey bread, cakes, jelly rolls, biscuits, and more.
The customer side of the bakery is quite small with a refrigerated case containing a variety of cakes that they sell and a few racks with other baked goods. They had a lot of cakes on my visit but I wanted something smaller so I grabbed one of their jelly rolls and a package of butter mochi.
The butter mochi was pretty good and doesn't taste like a stick of butter if you're worried about that. It's just mochi (which is made from rice) so it's ultra dense and sticky but I like it.
The jelly roll, which doesn't have any actual jelly in it, was also really good. It's a fluffy yellow cake rolled over a sugary, frosting-like, filling. It's not overly sweet, just all around good and better than I expected it to be.
What I really like about Makiki Bake Shop, in addition to the tasty treats, are the very reasonable prices. I walked out with a jelly roll and package of butter mochi for around $7. Those items fed 6 of us for dessert with some butter mochi to spare. So, at about $1 per person for dessert what's not to like?
Good stuff, I'll be back, and I hope they have more selection next time.
