Matt Anderson's Take
The first thing you notice when you walk up to Boots and Kimo's in Kailua is the big line of people waiting outside. Somebody is doing a great job marketing this place in Japan because it was primarily Japanese tourists willingly waiting for the opportunity to try the famed Macadamia nut pancakes.

Boots and Kimo's looks like a sports bar with all the memorabilia on the walls - it has a fun happy ambiance to it - similar to what you'd see at sports bars on the mainland. There are quite a few tables but pretty crammed together, which is not uncommon in Hawaii.

Our table was clean and the hostess was nice, although I felt a hint of "get your order to me - there a dozens of people waiting outside".

Of course I ordered the macadamia nut pancakes and a side order of spam (I was going to order bacon, but decided to go local style). The macadamia nut pancakes did not disappoint. The pancakes were served with a creamy white sauce sprinkled with macadamia nuts. The sauce is sweet, but not too sweet (imagine melted ice cream texture, but with a taste more like light frosting). I actually ordered two pancakes instead of the normal 3 that comes with the order, and for the dollar difference, I wish I had stuck to the basic order. The spam however, was really salty and I didn't finish it, so that was an order foul on my part - I know spam is salty and I should have gone with the bacon.

The price was fair, the service was good, silverware clean - no complaints about that stuff. This was my second visit to Boots and Kimo's and it was better than I remembered. As I was driving home I kept thinking about how much I liked those pancakes. Hmmm - what is this?? I rarely give a thought to Subway's sandwich an hour after I gobble it down. I may have a little crush on those pancakes. Actually, I think it's love.

If you like the NFL go here. Food is good too. Lines were so long we ordered take out and just ate on a bench outside. I'm not into pancakes much, so I had a really good corned beef hash sando. Next time I'd ask them to add a fried egg to it. After that salty affair, a bite of my kid's macadamia nut pancake was a great capper.

When I first went to Boots & Kimo’s, it was a kind of small restaurant but had many people waiting in line outside. They sell mostly breakfast and lunch foods. My most favorite food was of course the famous macadamia nut sauce on the pancakes. I still think about the pancakes till this day, so I would highly recommend this place if you love breakfast. My only cons would be that the waiting is kind of long and if you're a poor student and don’t have a lot of money, then you can’t really get as much yummy food.
