Swanzy Beach Park is located in Kaaawa on Oahu's east, or windward, side. Although this is a full fledged beach park, the actually sandy beach here isn't large. It's long but very narrow so there often isn't much dry sand to work with and right next to the sand is a seawall.

Much of the ocean area has a shallow reef which means the swimming here isn't very good. At least the views here are still amazing.

The park area is nice but not maintained very well. It does offer a basketball court, large grassy area, picnic tables, and a playground. Camping is available here as well with nine campsites, though you'll need a permit from the city to camp here.

As for that un-Hawaiian sounding name? The 5 acres of land that make up this beach park were donated to the City and County of Honolulu in the 1920s by Julie Judd Swanzy. The seawall was added to protect the park from eroding away but ended up taking most of the sandy beach area away.

Swanzy Beach Park is popular with locals who like to fish or camp and sometimes attracts homeless people as well.
