I somehow thought this would be more impressive than it was. It's interesting and unique and you should see it when you visit the area but it's not something you'd drive out of your way for.

Saw this trip report about going to the Hanapepe Swinging Bridge and thought this has to be added to my must see and do's on our Kauai trip. We finally found it but the parking area was a little worrisome to us and the area is a little run down. We went on a very windy day we were the only ones there that day.

We managed to get the courage up to cross the bridge which does look to need some repairs. Wood looked old and worn but my thoughts were "oh well let's do this" and we made it across with neither of us wanting to tempt fate by making it swing. But as we got off and were gathering our selves, another couple showed up and started crossing with no hesitation for them and we watched as they made the bridge swing. It held up for their crossing but we did not stick around to see if their return trip was as good lol.

The swinging bridge is a novelty and fun to walk across. The woman in front of me was jumping from side to side, so I can vouch for the fact that the bridge DOES swing! (There is a sign asking you not to do this!) If you don't like heights and the feeling of not having solid ground under your feet, you probably won't enjoy this!

I found the swinging bridge interesting. Yes it does need some work but I walked across. It didn't swing or anything. My husband would not go across. The whole town around this area was pretty run down. One thing about it...there was no one around. You don't have to fight any crowds.

I was very underwhelmed when I visited the swinging bridge, actually, I was truthfully a little scared. It's not because the bridge moves around and swings a lot, that was kind of fun, just the bridge was falling apart. I noticed loose wood and exposed nails sticking out into the area you walk through. It would be much better if those things were fixed.
