Paalaa Kai Bakery feels like one of those small mom and pop bakeries from years ago and you can't help but see it and want to stop in and see what's baking inside. When you do, you won't be disappointed!
The people here are really friendly and happy to give you some recommendations on what to try. Those in the know will surely suggest you try to the Snow Puffies which are clearly the house specialty. A Snow Puffy is a flaky pastry that's filled with, well, gooey goodness. The gooey goodness tastes like vanilla pudding to me and the pastry is topped with a little spot of chocolate and a healthy dose of powdered sugar.
How can you go wrong with that combo? You can't. They have a variety of other items like donuts, chocolate covered baked goods, cinnamon rolls, malasadas, cakes, pies, croissants, and even pre-made sandwiches. The prices relatively seem reasonable as well.
The bakery here has been serving its Waialua community for over 40 years and originally opened as Waialua Bakery back in 1970. It's a popular place for locals and tourists so be sure to stop by and try those Snow Puffies, and be sure to get your own because sharing is not an option on things that are this tasty.
