Long salt and pepper beach fronting an old fishpond. 3/4 mile walk required.

Features
• Sand Type: Regular • Parking: Good / Plenty • Good For: Fishing • Good For: Snorkeling

Honokohau Beach is part of the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park so you'll access it by parking in their lot and follow the path down to the ocean. Expect a 3/4 mile walk to get to the beach part. You can also walk here from Honokohau Marina & Small Boat Harbor, but the walk is about the same as from Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park.

This beach is a good place to fish as well as snorkel since it's fairly shallow in spots. It's also often pretty empty so good for hanging out and relaxing without a big crowd. The beach itself doesn't have any facilities but Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park has parking and bathrooms.

Looking for the nudists here? Well, what was once a nude beach no longer is. In fact, you'll get a ticket if you try it here and get caught.

One unique feature of this beach is the sand bar that separates the ocean on one side from the Aimakapa Fishpond on the other side. The fishpond was once a place to raise fish for the ali'i (chiefs) and is thought to be over 600 years old. Today, the fishpond is a refuge for various native and migratory wetland birds.
