Onekahakaha Beach Park is a unique and interesting beach park with lots to offer and you'll find it in the Hilo of Hawaii's Big Island. If you have keiki (children) then this is a great beach to try out.

The most noteable features here are the natural tide pools along with the lagoon area. All areas are well protected from the open ocean. As long as the ocean waves aren't crashing over the rock walls, this should be a safe option for the kids.

Onekahakaha beach also has full facilities that include bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, lifeguard, and a playground area. It's a popular place so expect it to be busy on weekends.

There is usually plenty of parking to go around, with much of it in the shade. Speaking of shade, there is a lot of grassy lawn area that is shaded as well.

What you won't find is a lot of sandy beach area. There is some sand beach here and the lagoon area has a sandy bottom. Another unique feature is the concrete path that leads out to the lagoon area with stairs that lead into the water. Pretty neat and unique feature.
