Pololu Valley Beach is black sand beach in the Kapaau of Hawaii's Big Island. It requires a bit of a hike via the Pololu Trail. It's more popular as the Pololu Valley Lookout, which is a great place to take some photos and enjoy an amazing view.
If you just want to see the beach and views from up high, drive to the end of Highway 270 and park and enjoy the views from the Pololu Valley Lookout. If you want to get down to the beach you'll need to hike down using the Pololu Trail.
As with any hike, this isn't for everyone so go prepared. For most, expect around a 30 minute hike down. Got a fear of heights? This one may not be for you. In fact, it certainly isn't for you.
Black sand beaches are fun to see, but this one isn't good for swimming or water activities. It has strong currents and a rocky bottom. You're also a long way from rescue if things go bad. This beach is more about the views and the overall experience rather than getting wet. Note that there are no facilities here.
