Curious about a burial at sea in Hawaii?

Many people love Hawaii so much that they request to have their ashes either scattered in the ocean or turned into a living reef. For the true Hawaii lover, is there a better way to spend eternity?

Traditionally being buried at sea involved the whole body being wrapped in sail cloth or placed in a coffin and sunk into the water, but that sort of thing doesn't happen as often in modern times (though the US Navy still does this in some cases). Here in Hawaii, the body is generally cremated first then the ashes are scattered into the ocean.

Another option is to have your ashes added to a cast concrete reef that is added to an artificial reef formation. The cremated remains (ashes) are actually mixed into the concrete mix and then poured into a mold. When dry, the concrete casting is pulled out of the mold and sunk in the ocean and becomes an artificial reef. This formation helps to replace nature reefs that have been destroyed by human contact.

Scattering the ashes of a loved one is a beautiful way to say a final goodbye with the added bonus of knowing that they will always be in Hawaii.
