Oh what a wonderful smell. To get out of the car and into the awesome world of malasadas. The Hawaiian donut. The best around is the Punalu'u Bake Shop. They also have sandwiches gifts and sweets. A must stop of the southern tip of the Big Island. You will be glad you did it.

We love this place! Every time we go to the Big Island we visit this bakery. The pastries are absolutely delicious as is the ice cream. The people that work here are wonderful and very friendly. We even love the little store inside. Buy your goodies and then enjoy them on the back patio. This southernmost bakery is a must see and especially on your way to or from the Black Sand Beach. A little touristy, but they deserve to be!

A great pit-stop after a long drive. When we got out of the car, we could smell the delicious aroma of baking in the air. It was difficult to know what to choose as there was so much on offer! I settled for a sandwich for later and coconut ice cream. The baked goods looked very enticing. There is a gift shop too. It was pretty busy, so obviously very popular.

This has got to be the favorite part of both times to Big Island! Their bread is fantastic! The guava is my favorite! The shop is full of bakery items and souvenirs. The best part is when your bread is all gone and you can't make it back to the shop all you have to do is go to the grocery store on the island and, voila, there it is on the shelves!

We were here on our recent visit to the big island. This is an awesome place to visit and recommend it highly! You can smell it when you pull into the drive. It is a bakery that is the big island hotspot! We ate lunch there and picked up bread to take home. Just go!

The bread is very good at Punalu'u Bake Shop but their desserts are amazing!!! Many rows of all different kinds of baked goods such as malasadas, long johns, pies, turnovers, and so much more. The best dessert they have the Lilikoi Malasada. It has a delicious Lilikoi icing on top of a soft and sweet Malasada.

When I was in Hawai'i, I was hopelessly addicted to these breads. And then we drove south and visited the bakery twice. The donuts and bread loaves are so tender and delicious. I miss this so much, it's definitely a favorite place for me!!

Punalu'u Bake Shop is a cute bakery in Ka'u. You can order plate lunches, sandwiches, ice cream, malasadas and other baked goods. I personally love the sweetbread! They offer other flavors besides the original sweet bread. There's guava(pink), taro(purple), Kalakoa(a mix of taro, guava, and mango) & apple cinnamon. So yummy! We had malasadas & turnovers as well as purchasing a few loaves of sweet bread to take with us. It was all delicious. Open every day (except Christmas & New Years) 9-5.
