As the sun reflects on the waterfall, a rainbow is visible in the mist, hence it's namesake.

Well worth getting there early in the morning to see the rainbows in the mist of the waterfall. The hike up the stairs to the left of the falls takes you to the top of the falls where there are some amazing views and some amazing looking trees at the top of the trail.

Rainbow falls was beautiful with the natural occurring rainbow. Love waterfalls and this one did not disappoint. Loved walking up the trail to the top and a beautiful place to take pictures.

A good spot for a brief visit and easily accessible just west of Hilo. The falls make a tremendous noise in the Spring and the water is very stirred up. Do be well aware of what children are doing. The parking lot has a glorious array of Hawaiian plants and often someone is there to interpret. Sometimes locals are diving here...resist the temptation!

Rainbow falls is a nice place to visit. You can take a short hike up some stairs to get a better view of the falls, but it does get a slippery when it rains. There's usually not a crowd of people here so there should be parking. Be sure to always lock your car doors and use mosquito spray when walking around.

If you are in Hilo you must go see Rainbow Falls. It is very easy to get good photos here. Walk around and see the large tree. It is easy to find and get to. I have since learned that there is a state park just up the road that we missed. We will have to go back to see it next time.

Rainbow Falls is about 5 minutes from downtown Hilo. It is a very short walk from your car to the waterfall lookout. There is a trail on the left that takes you up to see the top of the falls and Wailuku River. Watch out if it is wet, these stairs can get slippery. It has a handrail so if you take your time it's no problem. On your way up be sure to check out the huge Banyan trees. Parking here is free.
