Akaka Falls State Park offers a self-guided and short (0.4 mile loop) walk through a tropical rainforest on your way to see two stunning waterfalls. The Akaka Falls Loop Trail hike is really a walk on a paved route and easy for most visitors but note that there are stairs to deal with and the path is not wheelchair accessible.
The first waterfall is the 100 foot tall Kahuna Falls. Continue on and you'll approach the viewing area for the incredible Akaka Falls which is a 442 foot, free falling waterfall and probably the Big Island's most famous waterfall.
Bring a camera and plan on spending about an hour to do the walk and see the falls. You'll pay $5 per car to get in (or $1 per person if on foot).
