Local coffee houses should be supported by java lovers everywhere. Hawaii has enough "Starbucks" and "The Coffee Bean" shops in Hawaii to keep the island awake for years. But there are so few artsy coffee shops in Hawaii, that it fills my heart with my heart caffeinated happiness to see them. Coffee Talk is in the heart of Kaimuki on Waialae Avenue. It's small, with, darkish joint with a few tables and a slightly avante garde vibe.
They serve a variety of hot and cold coffee drinks, as well as smoothies, muffins, and their popular acai bowls. I ordered an iced mocha, which was nicely prepared, with the mild, mocha, and coffee all beautifully layered in my cup. The great thing is that their coffee taste unique, unlike the other chain shops. Not that I dislike Starbucks - I love them, but to have aromatic different tasting coffee drinks is indeed refreshing.
After ordering my coffee, and headed down to Cafe Laufer to pick up a mixed berry muffin to go with my mocha. A decadent and delightful treat.
