Taco Del Mar - Restaurants On Oahu Kapolei, Hawaii

Taco Del Mar is essentially American style Mexican fast food. It's similar to a Taco Bell but quite a bit better if you ask us.

The Kapolei location of this chain restaurant is always clean and staffed with very friendly employees who always make us feel welcome. The food is always very good and we end up coming here a lot for their "kids eat free" deal on Sundays. If you just want a quick bite at a great price then this is worth a try.

We only have a few minor complaints with this location. The owner frequents this restaurant often which is mostly a good thing, but he's a smoker and tends to smoke right outside the front door or at the outdoor tables (only if no customers are outside). Beyond just being bad form the smell does make its way into the restaurant. We've also watched him discipline employees right out in the open which is also really bad form.

We've also noticed that the owners are really strict with their employees when it comes to how the food is prepared. All portions are controlled so precisely that you would think we're on some sort of war rationing program. Want a fork, you'll have to ask for it. Need extra napkins, you'll have to ask for it. Want extra cheese or meat, then you're paying for it because they'll only scoop the EXACT amount they're supposed to. We can appreciate the reasons for controlling these items (pronounced: keeping your bottom line in check) but you can't help feeling like you're nothing more than a cog in the machine when a place does this.

It's great overall but it's those few things that bother us a bit and keep this place from being a bit better.
