The Fat Greek - Restaurants On Oahu Honolulu, Hawaii

The Fat Greek has a few locations around the island but this one is located in the Kaimuki neighbor just off the H1 around exit 25. It's fairly easy to find but the parking situation could be better as they have a very tiny parking lot.

As you could easily guess, the specialty here is Greek food so when I had a gyro craving today this is where I came. I've eaten at The Fat Greek located at Ala Moana Center and really enjoyed the gyros there so I assumed they'd be the same here. Turns out, it's not quite the same.

The Ala Moana location does the gyros correctly with thin slices of meat while this location gives you five thick strips of meat. Everything else is the same but for $9 (including a small side salad) they really skimp on the meat. Five strips? Seriously? You can add extra meat but it's a $5 option, come on now!

Still, it's quite tasty and didn't feel too greasy (relatively speaking, it is a Gyro after all). The staff seems okay, but the guys running the stand at Ala Moana always seem friendlier. The building here is pretty run down and falling apart, some repairs and new paint would go a long way here.

I also recommend getting their hummus, which is excellent, but get extra pita as they'll give you a ton of hummus but not enough pita. I'm sure I'll be back if I'm right in this area and want a gyro, but otherwise I'd rather go to The Fat Greek at Ala Moana Center instead.
