Looking for good BBQ on Kauai? You're not likely to find many options but Chicken in a Barrel is one of them and this one is located in the Hanalei Center shopping mall area.
The people here were instantly friendly and helpful when we walked in and the place has a pretty good vibe going on and feels very relaxed.
I tried the sampler platter which included some pulled pork, beef brisket, one rib (yes, 1), some chicken, a scoop of rice, and a cup of chili. It was a fair amount of food but felt a little pricey at $15. It was all really good, and topping things off with their spicy BBQ sauce (which wasn't remotely spicy) made it even better.
I really enjoyed everything on my plate and the chili was notably good (very stew like chili) but I wasn't wowed by anything. I'd order it again without a second thought but I won't be dreaming about it. If it was a bit cheaper I'd probably give it a 4.5 star rating but that's okay, I'll be back.
