We went to this Eggs 'n Things located at the Ewa end of the Ala Moana Shopping Center, because we heard some good things about it. What a disappointment. My wife and I were hungry and looking forward to a nice, hearty brunch. Before we were seated, we checked out the menu and asked one of the employees if the servings were generous. He said, "Yes, they're large, and you might have to take some home."

We ordered two entrees, Portuguese sausage and two eggs with pancakes, and a loco moco. The sausage and eggs were two small, dry, shriveled-up little pieces of meat of undetermined origin, and the eggs were also quite small and tasteless. The only half-decent part of that meal were the pancakes. The loco moco came in what can be best described as a small soup-bowl, with a small scoop of rice, a dark, dry, hamburger patty, and a small egg on top. No mac salad, no potato salad, no sides of any kind.

I was immediately dissatisfied with the size of the serving, but not as much as when I took my first bite of the patty. It was salty beyond description. It made me gag. I thought that they must be trying to keep their old meat as long as possible by salting it, just like British sailors used to salt their pork while at sea, to keep the meat from getting spoiled.

I told our waiter that the meat was too salty and did not bother to order another entree. The manager came by and asked me what the problem was, and I told him that the meat was way too salty. He said that they make their own meat, which made me even more suspicious about what they were serving. I watched my wife force down her tasteless sausage and eggs.

The prices were on the high side, too, around $11 for the tiny, salty loco-moco and around $12 for the sausage and eggs. To their credit, they took the loco moco off the bill, but we'll never go back there again. We've had much better-tasting food and bigger servings at many other places in Hawaii.

Eggs 'n Things has an overall rating of 3 stars. Most reviewers thought the food was good and said that the service was fast and friendly. They do, however, agree that the prices are a bit on the pricey side – and the wait can be long at times.
