Matt Anderson's Take
Mea Inu Bar & Grill is right inside the Lihue Airport (LIH) and offers lunch and dinner. They offer some sandwiches, burgers, salads, chicken Katsu, a turkey and bacon panini, and other popular dishes.

It’s a great way to pass the time since they have plenty of TV’s where you can watch your favorite sporting event while enjoying your meal and drinks. The other side of the restaurant offers various grab and go drinks, snacks, and meals.

I had some time to kill before leaving Kauai and figured I would grab an early dinner here. Our waitress, Jane, was super nice, fast, and very friendly. She actually chatted with us about all sort of Kauai information and shared some little tidbits on her favorites beaches.

While I would give Jane 5 stars, the overall experience is really just average. I ordered the Kalua pork sandwich which was surprisingly good when you realize you're in an airport with planes taking off in front of you. The flavor was very good and not overly salty and their BBQ was nice as well. The bun seemed a bit dry and sort of disintegrated on me during my meal.

None of that is really the issue though. The real problem are the prices. Okay, I get it, when you are in Hawaii things are expensive. Go to an island like Kauai and they're more expensive. Go to a hotel or airport and it's even higher. But how do they justify $4.99 for a glass of soda? Now that "no outside food or drinks allowed" sign makes sense. As for my sandwich, it was $11.99! $12 for a simple Kalua pork sandwich? Should have been half of that.

I don't expect a ton from a cafe in an airport and expect a mild financial plundering to take place but I just prefer not to get completely ripped off on the price like this. For that reason alone I can't really recommend Mea Inu Bar & Grill.

The majority of their customers agree that the food is fine though nothing special. But the prices are just way too expensive.

The service has been noted as being slow by some.
