Beth Anderson's Take
Go tubing through an old sugar plantation irrigation system, soar through the air on their 7 line zipline course, or hike the side of a mountain down to a lush bamboo grove.

Another fun and bizarre experience like I've never had before. Tons of fun and something I would absolutely do again on our next Kauai visit.

This was one of those activities that we had wanted to do on previous trips to Kauai but had never gotten to do it but this last trip we did. I must say it is one of our most memorable experiences of our last trip to Kauai. This is called a back country adventure for good reason and is so much fun and very relaxing. It isn't fast paced like riding rapids but more like a slow relaxing stroll in the water. The guides were very knowledgeable and the view of Mount Wailaealae is breathtaking. Lunch was great and included my favorite Maui onion potato chips!! Definitely a trip worth taking.

Such an amazing experience! Fortunately, my husband and I had the opportunity to do this before their videos went viral on Facebook, so there weren't too many people in our group during our adventure. The tour was very well organized and the guides were knowledgeable. The total experience was about 3-3 1/2 hours, which was longer than I had expected! So for the price of roughly $100, I thought that was very reasonable. I would definitely do this again during a return trip to Kauai!

Rachel M's review was right on the money. Everything went just as she described. The overlook they take you to gives you a great view of Mount Waialeale. Depending on who you ask, it is one of the wettest places on Earth. It is also the second highest point on Kaua'i. The surrounding Alakai Swamp is beautiful.

The water was not cold, it was actually quite pleasant. At no point in trip down the canal did my wife or I feel threatened or concerned. The picnic lunch at the end consisted of sandwiches and Maui Chips and the scenery was amazing. Our guides Drake and Lucky told us about Wailua Falls and Puka Dog. We went to both afterwards. The falls were amazing with a rainbow in the mist and the Puka Dog was the best Hawaiian hot dog I have ever had. I highly recommend Kaua'i Backcountry Adventures to anyone going to the Garden Island.

I wasn't sure what to expect when we booked our Kauai Backcountry Tubing Adventure. Our experience was so much more than I expected! It was a lot of fun. Just be sure to book early because they fill up fast!

Also, be sure to put on sunscreen and bug spray.

When you arrive at the Kauai Backcountry Adventures warehouse in Lihue, the first thing you do is check in and fill out some paperwork. Then they weigh you (there is a 300# limit for this adventure, and don't worry, no one can see the scale) and get you fitted in a helmet and some gloves. After everyone arrives the tour group for that hour is split into 2 vans. The vans were pretty packed, but it's a short ride.

The tour guides were all very nice and made the van ride fun. Before arriving at the irrigation ditch you stop and take in a view of some mountains. It was gorgeous! The tour guides took pictures for everyone and then we got back in the van to finish our short trip. When we arrived at the tubing adventure they briefed us on a few safety rules and got us ready to go in.

Everyone kept talking about how cold the water was, I didn't think it was that bad. Then they load everyone into a tube. After everybody's ready they let you out of the "holding area" and start downstream. You go through 5 tunnels and use your headlamp. And most of the time it is like a lazy river. You just sit back and enjoy the ride. There were a couple of times that we went through "rapids" (just small areas where you picked up speed) but it is very relaxing and the views are beautiful.

The ONLY thing I didn't like about the tubing adventure was in addition to going with 2 other adults, I also took my 7-year-old who had a blast, but one of the rules is you cannot hold on to each other's tubes, so I was separated from my child and the 2 other people in my party almost the whole time. Luckily, my daughter is pretty independent and didn't seem to mind and also one of the tour guides stayed by her and made sure she was ok.

After the tubing is done, you get out, dry off and drive to a little picnic area. There are bathrooms (port a pottys), changing rooms & picnic tables. They set up a make it yourself turkey sandwich station with chips and cookies and drinks. It was much nicer than I had thought it would be. You eat and spend some time at a very pretty spot. Then you get back in the van and drive back. On the drive back the tour guides made small talk and answered any questions about things to see, places to eat, etc. I was very impressed with the whole trip, and I definitely recommend it for your next trip to Kauai!
