We will never return to this restaurant and we're still upset that we ever ate here. My wife and I came in for a quick dinner and some drinks. We saw they had sushi on the menu and were intrigued, thinking that sushi from Hawaii had to be fresher than it is back home. At first when we came in, the host told us that we could not be seated because they were backed up in the back (and yet, half of the room had empty tables). When we finally sat down, it took 15 minutes to be greeted, about 45 minutes until when we actually received our food despite the fact that we were obviously ready to order by the time our waiter with an awkward ponytail came over. The sushi was a big disappointment. It was all rice with very little fish inside. We started pulling all of the rice off to actually get to eat the fish. Eventually, we ask for the bill. On a really bad day of service, I still tip at least 15% because I was a server and I get it; HOWEVER, here is the kicker...

When we received the bill (from another server, he didn't have the guts to drop it off himself), he added auto-gratuity at 18% even though it was just the two of us... I've never seen it before and having waited tables myself I know that's usually only done with 6-8 people. When we called him over and asked if it was normal to add gratuity to a table of 2, he replied that it is a new Hawaiian law to auto-grat all parties. This is a complete and utter lie and instead of admitting it was an accident and walking away, he stuck to a lie. This guy should be fired.

We tried calling the restaurant later to let them know they have a con artist on top of a bad server working for them, no answer, left a message, and no call back. DO NOT GO HERE! We will be telling anyone traveling to Kauai the same thing. This is the only time on our honeymoon that we felt like unappreciated tourists and we were extremely disappointed and outraged. There are great spots to eat downstairs, don't fall into this trap.

I was initially reluctant to try this, as it is touted as a seafood restaurant. In general, I definitely do not prefer seafood and I'm very picky about what I eat. I can see how sushi lovers would really enjoy this restaurant, but as for me, I just kept to my good ol' standby of fish and chips. The portion sizes were generous for the price, and their alcoholic drinks were good!

Bocuhon's Hanalei receives an average rating of 3 stars.

The fish and chips was regarded as the number one meal for many customers.

The view of the mountains delighted many customers whom found the scenery quite relaxing.

Customers were not impressed with the service as they indicated that it was slow.

There were also groans about the chef's preparation of crab and sushi meals.
