Fun place to have a drink and share a few appetizers or "pupus" as we were told they are called here. Love that name. Anyhow, it was all good and this is a pretty lively place when crowded. Service was decent, food was very good.

We enjoyed an evening at Tahiti Nui. The service was average, but the atmosphere great and the place was buzzing. The food served is a combination of local fare and more general offerings such as pizza. The cocktails were delicious and went down a treat! A fun place for a night out in Hanalei.

Having been to Tahiti 4 times, we decided to try this place for lunch for the sentimental value it brought us. Parking was a bit of a problem as the parking lot was full and delivery trucks blocked the exit so one had no choice but to turn and drive out the entranceway. With the lot being so narrow, it being rainy (large puddles)and multiple cars going in both directions and trying to turn around, it made things difficult. We ended up parking in the shopping center next door and walking over.

We had no trouble getting a table for lunch right away and couldn't understand why the parking lot was so busy till we observed many people walking over from the shops across the street and getting into cars. Most of the parking spots were taken up by people not even in the restaurant. I mention this because one might assume there would be a long wait for a table based on how busy the parking lot was when this was indeed not the case and I would encourage you to check inside before writing this place off.

Service was friendly though not particularly efficient. The Poisson cru we had as an appetizer, unfortunately, lacked enough lime and coconut milk and really was more similar to Hawaiian poke than Tahitian Poisson cru. It wasn't bad, just not really true to its namesake.

Pizzas were very good, with a crisp crust, delicious toppings, and good sized servings. The salad was average. The ambiance of this place was really reminiscent of places we have visited in French Polynesia- very casual, nostalgic and authentic. And, they had Hinano beer! Overall, a very good lunch stop. Would love to visit again for dinner when they have live music.

We went there 2 times while on Kauai. Loved this place. The pizza is great. Sit outside to enjoy the mountain view. Very interesting to see one of the settings for The Descendants movie. Try one of their mixed drinks! Will definitely go back the next time I am on Kauai.

Service was not exceptional. Had to wait 20 minutes to place order even for a drink and it was off peak time (3 pm). When finally received food, pizza had a soggy crust. Would not return or recommend.

Reviews are generally positive about Tahiti Nui.

Many people like the friendly atmosphere and eating the local style food. The mai tais' are also mentioned favorably.

There are some complaints that the service is slow, possibly due to the popularity of the restaurant and insufficient number of servers. It's particularly a problem on Wednesdays, which is "luau night".

Many referred to Tahiti Nui as a "dive bar", but not necessarily negatively.
