The Children's Discovery Center is located just a couple of miles northwest of Waikiki (see Waikiki Guide) in the Honolulu of O'ahu and right next to Kaka'ako Waterfront & Point Panic. It is geared towards younger kids mostly. So, kids around three to ten years old are likely to enjoy this the most.

Getting here is a little odd since it is tucked away a bit but get yourself to Ala Moana Blvd (92) and turn off towards the ocean onto Ohe St. Can't find Ohe St? Then use Cooke St instead which is much easier to find. Ohe will take you behind the Discovery Center where there is a small parking lot (often filled) while Cooke will take you to the front side and right into a much larger parking area.

Once inside you'll find various areas with all sorts of hands on exhibits for kids to play with and learn from. In one room you'll find a small tree house and a fun water area that kids can sends small boats and other floating items down.

In another room your kids will learn about parts of their body work, play in a fake restaurant or doctor's office, or visit the "main street" area with various businesses to work and play in. Kids can dress up as fireman, play in a grocery store, or do some hands on work as a mechanic.

It's not very large inside but kids will easily be able to kill a couple of hours in here and love every minute of it. Considering the fairly low price of entry ($12 for adults, Kama'aina or military are $10, seniors are $7, and those under 1 are free) it's probably worth a visit if you have kids.

It would be nice to see this place expand a bit more (they appear to have plenty of free space) and more seating inside for parents wouldn't be a horrible idea either. If you don't have kids or only have older kids then you'll want to skip this place entirely because in those cases this isn't the experience you are looking for.
