Lani T's Take
If you want to experience the ultimate pampering experience, book a massage or facial at Laniwai Spa at Aulani A Disney Resort And Spa and spend the day at the outdoor hydrotherapy garden, Kula Wai. Five of my girlfriends and I spent a girls spa day at Laniwai and had an amazing day.

When we first walked in, we were greeted by a very pleasant woman who offered us cold water infused with lemon grass and pineapple. Then she let us pick a smooth flat stone with a word engraved in English on one side and in Hawaiian on the other side. She told us to meditate on the word we chose while we spend the day at the spa. Then we walked a narrow walkway to the shallow, beautiful and serene rock pool and put the stone in it.

We were given a short tour of the locker, shower, eucalyptus steam room, cedar dry sauna, relaxation room and the hydrotherapy garden, Kula Wai. We were shown sea salt scrubs with different fragrances (maile, mango, pikake, and plumeria) and asked to pick the one we wanted. Then we were given a small container of the scrub to use at the shower or to take home.

After the tour, we changed into swimsuits and headed out to Kula Wai while we waited to be called for our treatments. Kula Wai is in a tranquil sanctuary with two hot soaking tubs, a reflexology path to massage the feet as you walk on it, 6 different showers in a circle, Jacuzzi, icy cold pool, and a lounge area under lush trees. Their two hot soaking tubs used to have mineral water with seaweed but they only had regular chlorinated water this time. They have a circular area with 6 motion sensor showers with all different shower heads simulating rain, waterfalls, fountain, spray and different ways water can travel. It’s a lot of fun to go around in the different showers.

After soaking in the Jacuzzi heated to 104 degrees, you can jump in the ice cold vitality pool, cooled to the temperature of 45 degrees to promote circulation. It’s fun to see how long you can submerge your body in the icy cold pool. I can barely make it for 10 seconds before I jump back in the warm Jacuzzi. You can’t help but scream as you jump into the icy cold pool. When you jump back in to the hot Jacuzzi, your whole body is prickly like thousands of pins and needles are poking you. It’s painful and invigorating at the same time and it’s quite addicting after you get over the initial shock. You can spend as much time as you want in Kula Wai as long as you have a massage or facial 50 minutes or longer.

My friends all had different treatments from Signature Laniwai Lomilomi massage, Sports massage, Waiwai Lomilomi massage to Ultra Ageless facial. Everyone was very happy with the treatment. After the treatment, we stayed in the relaxation room to take a short nap. Then off to Kula Wai again to relax and hang out with friends. We all had a memorable experience.

Laniwai provides snacks and fruits in the relaxation room if you get hungry. You can also order food from the hotel. But we came prepared with trail mix and other snacks.

The only downside to Laniwai Spa is their price. The basic 50 minute lomilomi massage is $150 and with tax and 18% gratuity added on to the bill it comes out to almost $200. But most hotels charge about the same price and they don’t have the outdoor hydrotherapy garden that you can spend all day. If you want an unforgettable spa experience then I highly recommend it. And I think it’s much more fun to do it with a bunch of people.

I give the spa experience a solid 5 but because of the high price, I gave the overall rating of 4.5.

I went here with my wife for our anniversary. I still think about it. It's a first rate experience from the moment you check in. Unlike all the crazy hectic activity outside the door, the spa is tranquil and peaceful. Loved relaxing in the water spas, and challenging myself how long I can sit in the cold tub before jumping to the hot one.

The massage was great too. You can get a massage anywhere, but in this setting it's really special. Only complaint is that it's so dang expensive. If it were cheaper, I'd go every week if I could. Great job to the minds at Disney for doing a resort spa right.

I love massage, but I'm not usually a Spa type of person. However, I had such a wonderful experience at this spa. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, including the massage therapist, and the energy and atmosphere of the spa were relaxing and calm. I loved picking a stone at the beginning of my experience. And I loved using their mini pools in the back. It was great to shower and get all cleaned up after my massage. Such a great experience!

Truly the best spa experiences I have ever had! I had the 80 minute Hana Pohaku Lomilomi heated stone massage which was amazing. The therapist knew exactly what she was doing and how much pressure to apply. The outdoor Hydro garden was beautiful even though it was a rainy day, the hot tub felt good with the rain hitting me. I would definitely recommend the Laniwai Spa to anyone staying in Oahu!
