My family and I visited the Hilo farmers market today. Big disappointment! We were told that there were over 200 vendors, however was nowhere near this. The explanation that was given was that a nearby hotel that opened down the street does not like the farmers market and is trying to push the market out of the neighborhood. The farmers market was there long before that hotel.

This is the quieter side of the Big Island. The Farmer's Market has a vast array of local products. Try a coconut drink in the coconut! Munch on lychee nuts..really a fruit.

All kinds of clothing but try to buy locally made. Very interesting local jewelry. And friendly people. The market may flood in heavy downpours.

On one side of the street is the fruit, vegetables, and everything edible. On the other side are stalls aimed more at tourists selling crafts, t-shirts, jewellery, paintings, etc. Both sides are worth a browse and there's a nice atmosphere, with a couple of street musicians playing. We were there on a Wednesday morning and it was pretty lively. Certainly worth a browse.

The Hilo Farmers Market has a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables for a reasonable price. They also have lots of vendors selling all kinds of different foods. I've had fresh baked blueberry muffins, pad Thai, fresh Lilikoi juice, and so many other good food. Don't forget to bring cash because most of the vendors don't take credit card.
