Laupahoehoe, Hawaii

Laupahoehoe is located on the north shore of the Big Island. It's name means "lava tip", which refers to cape that was created by ancient smooth lava flows that created the land on which the town is built.

A monument stands at Laupahoehoe Memorial Park for the twenty students and four teachers were drowned in a school building that was inundated during the "April Fools Day tsunami" on April 1, 1946.
