Lanai City, Hawaii

Lanai City is located in central Lanai. Lanai City serves as the island's main business and commerce center, with many of the shops and restaurants located here. The town surrounds Dole Park.

On April 2009, Lanai City was named one of the most endangered historic sites in the U.S. as is has an intact plantation town, which cannot be from on any other Hawaiian island. The buildings date back to the 1920's.

Entrepreneur James Drummond Dole once owned Lanai and built Lanai City for the workers of the pineapple plantations. In 2009 the buildings in the town were due to be demolished to make way for new commercial building, that the National Trust for Historic Preservation deemed "oversized" and "out-of-scale".

In June 2012 Larry Ellison bought 98% of the island.

You will find some beautiful beaches here such as Manele Bay Beach and Hulopo'e Bay Beach Park.
