Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Kailua-Kona is located on the west(Kona) side of the Big Island. This is where the Kona International Airport (KOA) is located. Kailua-Kona was established as be his seat of government by King Kamehameha I .

Since 2000 the Kona side of the island has experienced an increase in Vog from from Pu'u O'o and Kilauea due to wind patterns from the South Kona side also known as Kona winds.

Some attractions you can find here are the start and stop of the Ironman World Championship triathlon, Ka'elehuluhulu Beach, Kamakahonu Beach, Kuki'o Beach, and annual Kona Coffee Festival.
