Pali Ke Kua Beach is also known as Hideaways Beach and when you see how well hidden it is you'll understand why. It's located in the Princeville area on the north shore of Kaua'i. You could walk and drive right by this hidden beach without ever knowing it was there, much less how to access it.

Well, here's the secret: Head towards The St. Regis Princeville Resort but right before you get to the St. Regis gatehouse you'll see a small, and I mean small, parking lot on your right. Park there and you'll see a trail between the two parallel fences along with a blue beach access sign. If you're staying at the St. Regis just walk here right from the hotel.

Follow that trail towards the ocean but only if it wasn't raining and isn't about to start because if the trail is wet and muddy it could be pretty rough going. On that note, I wouldn't suggest bringing kids or older folks here even on a good day, unless they're really good hikers. As you'll quickly see, the easy trail becomes one of major elevation change and the rusty, shaky old railings could make it tough for some.

If you're up to the challenge use the ropes that are tied off to help you work your way down (over 100 feet) and then back up the "stairs" and path. It's not far and only takes around 10 minutes but it can be a bit sketchy in some areas. If you are unsure if this is for you simple follow the easy path until the stairs start to take you down and you can get a good visual on what's coming and make a choice to turn around if needed.

The payoff at the bottom is beyond worth it. This is an amazing secret beach and a true hidden gem that is often empty. The water here is amazingly clear and blue as you can see from our photos (taken on a cloudy day no less). If the ocean is calm there will be some excellent snorkeling here.

Shade is provided by some trees so pack a lunch and make a day of it. It's amazingly peaceful here, I could spend a day just relaxing on this beach. Note that there are no facilities here.
