Lumahai Beach is a large stretch of sand, around a mile long, on the north shore of Kaua'i but this isn't a beach you would swim at due to very strong currents and undertows.
This is the beach from the movie South Pacific where Mitzi Gaynor "washed that man right out of her hair" so come and enjoy the beautiful views if nothing else. And on that topic, don't forget to also read Popular Movies & TV Shows Filmed In Hawaii.
Parking is available at the far west end with a fairly large dirt lot which might also be pretty bumpy so watch out for holes. This end of the beach is also where the Lumahai river dumps into the ocean and the green (though clear) waters from the river are not the most inviting.
Fortunately, the sandy beach area here is quite massive, and even dune like in areas, so you'll have plenty of space to spread out and call your own for the day or a couple of hours. Note that there are no facilities here.
