The Nuuanu Pali Lookout (or Nuuanu Pali State Wayside as it's also known) offers some amazing panoramic views of the Ko'olau Cliffs and the windward coast of O'ahu. Just driving up the Pali Highway is a bit of a treat with some awesome views.

The actual lookout is over a thousand feet up and gives great views of Kaneohe, Kailua, and Chinaman's Hat (see Chinaman's Hat Trail (Mokolii Island) and Chinaman's Hat - The Giant Lizard).

It's often windy up here. We mean really windy up here. Leave your hat in the car if you ever want to see it again. Assuming the winds are howling here, it should prove to be an interesting experience and one kids will probably get a kick out of.

Curious to know more about this special place? The word "Pali" means "cliff" in Hawaiian and this is the site of the Battle of Nu'uanu which took place back in 1795. King Kamehameha won the battle and became the ruler of O'ahu, with hundreds of soldiers being killed in the process (many forced off the cliffs).

Note that there is a fee of $3 per car for non-Hawaii residents.
