Sometimes windy beach but worth a visit for the nature walk that is here.

Features
• Sand Type: Regular • Parking: Good / Plenty • Good For: Fishing • Good For: Kayaking • Good For: Whale Sightings

Kealia Beach, also known as Sugar Beach, is located near the center of Maalaea Bay in Kihei. The beach itself is very long but it gets a lot of wind and on most days the wind alone is a reason you wouldn't want to hang out on this beach.

There tends to be a lot of sand churned up in the water near the shore so that combined with the wind can often make this a less than average beach.

There are some great mountain views to be had but the real treat at Sugar Beach is the nature walk that parallels the beach. The nature walk has some educational information along the way that explains how the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge (which is directly opposite / north of the beach) is a bird sanctuary and wetlands.

If you can't find a parking spot at the main lot near our map marker, just head further south and you'll find some parking right along the road. We often see fishermen here (pole fishing and spearfishing) as well.

It's worth a stop for the nature walk, and the beach is a nice place to take a long walk (when it's not too windy) or possibly do a little beachcombing to see what treasures you can find.
