Mau'umae Beach is located ins Kamuela on Hawaii's Big Island, just south of Spencer Beach Park and just north of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel but can be a little tricky to find at first.

Continue down Kamahoi road past the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel service entrance. You'll pass a maintenance yard and go across two wooden bridges. You'll come to a roped off fence - that's where you park. See our map / directions page for exact location. It's a good idea to arrive early since parking is limited.

Follow the trail down toward the ocean 100 yards, then turn left along the trail's T section for about 75 yards to the reach the beach.

The beach here is often empty and gives a nice feeling of seclusion, especially with the Ironwood trees behind it, and can be a good place for snorkeling if the ocean if calm. Just note that there is no lifeguard here if you get in trouble.

There aren't any facilities here, camping is not allowed, and you cannot have any open fires here.
